In Hall 4 at K, Indian manufacturer Pelican launched its new Acrostar slitter rewinder. Demonstrated live throughout the show, the new slitter rewinder can operate at a maximum speed of 700 meters a minute and has a rapid changeover time of less than 30 seconds.

The turret rewinder with its fast changeover, closed-loop tension control, and automation features, is far more productive than duplex rewinders. According to the Rajkot-based manufacturer, the production output in comparison to duplex rewinders is significant. The USP of the Acrostar is closed-loop tension control on rewinder using load cell for feedback, coupled with differential winding shaft technology, which provides the user with just the right combination for precisely controlled and consistent winding. The result is a perfectly wound reel that can aid in the next process.

The Acrostar is suitable for a wide range of substrates, at higher speed levels. The machine is equipped with best-in-class servo motors and motion control systems (six servo axis) from Siemens. It also comes with a reel push-off system coupled with the reel unloading system. Depending on the substrate and the number of end products, the productivity increase in tonnage varies from 35% to 70%.

Bharat Shah of Pelican pointed out that the Acrostar’s easy to use design has kept in mind the skill levels prevalent on the shop floors in emerging markets. Shah asserts, “The capacity of the Acrostar is roughly double and this is because its USP is a closed-loop rewinder tension sensing load cell that gives actual feedback. This gives actual feedback while running and not just an average number. The comparison should be made with the ‘virtual tension control’ of other manufacturers and our actual tension control.”

At the Pelican stand at K, alongside the new Acrostar one tower of the Pelican Cerutti R982 gravure press was being displayed. The tower has a new semi-flotation dryer that will make it much easier to run thinner and more extensible substrates on the 450 meters a minute press. Shah shares that the production of the Pelican Cerutti R982 gravure press has picked with about half a dozen installations.

Pelican also promoted its Pelican Solomark 6400 gravure press at K, and its Solomark MLS, Sololam SB solvent-based, and its Sololam Plus solvent-less laminator.
